Microtek flat-bed scanner
- typical of numerous flat-bed scanners, this model produces excellent results from prints, is easy and quick to operate, and is reliable.

Scanmaker X6
- an inexpensive 600 x 1,200 PPI scanner from Microtek working with a SCSI interface suitable for older computers. There is also a USB version, one with advanced driver software, and another with a transparency adaptor.

Scanmaker X12
- typical of many basic scanners in offering good reflective original performance, and with resolution of 1,200 x 1,200 PPI. A transparency adaptor and both SCSI and USB interfaces are available - and all at a reasonable price.

Scanmaker 3600
- a very inexpensive scanner for the beginner, with a USB interface (easy to use but limits the speed of operation) with 600 x 1,200 PPI resolution suitable for scanning prints. A transparency adaptor is also available.

CanoScan FB1210U
- a compact scanner offering good interfaces as well as rapid, fuss-free operation with 1,200 x 2,400 PPI resolution and good-quality colour, its transparency adaptor designed for medium-format film works well.

Heidelberg Linoscan 1200
- an economical entry-level desktop scanner with an optical resolution of 2,400 x 1,200 PPI. An integrated transparency unit makes it suitable for film as well as reflection originals.

Heidelberg F2650 f
- a superb scanner able to produce pro-quality scans by reflected light up to A3 in size, as well as good-quality scans of transparent materials using a respected and sophisticated software driver. It is, however, kind of an expensive package.
